Number 10: shy kids - In a State Seems like 2018 was the year of the short albums. But I actually liked it because most of them just were consistent throughout and didn’t suffer from any filler. Yet when I was recommended this album and I saw it was only 23 minutes, and 4 of the 9 tracks are under 2 minutes, I was kinda sceptical. And even though it’s maybe a little too short, which is probably the album‘s biggest downside, it’s an absolutely great and very enjoyable and fun album. The small Canadian indie band shy kids take you on a colorful, vibrant and beautiful journey through America. Many of these songs are just beautiful, happy, and insanely catchy musical bliss. With their big instrumental pallets, expressive vocals and endearing lyrics, they travel through the different moods and sides of the country, all in just 23 minutes. It flows naturally and gives you a feeling of accomplishment by the end, as if you actually went on that trip with them. However, you haven’t experienced it completely without the visual aspect. This is a beautiful visual album, especially the music video for I Was In New York, it adds a lot. I still think though the music works great without it too. Also, shy kids are just a really nice band and I’m so glad I checked this out.
