♯new ♯2019checklist ♯orchestral ♯ambient ♯electronic ♯experimentalrock 'Ghosteen' grappling with immense themes like personal & collective grief, a double-LP seems completely necessary. The analogue synthesizers, light piano, chimes and drones replace the usual guitar & percussion found on most albums-- which is fitting for the album's mood, an ethereal dream-state. The album made more sense after I read about Nick Cave's 15-year-old son Arthur who died after falling from the Ovingdean Gap (possibly on LSD at the time). 'Ghosteen' is part wake, part tribute, part eulogy-- it's heavy like Mount Eerie's 'A Crow Looked at Me'
